25 LC 129 0234 Senate Resolution 333 By: Senators Orrock of the 36th, Halpern of the 39th, Jackson of the 41st, Parent of the 44th, Jones II of the 22nd and others A RESOLUTION Commending Karl Webster Barnes; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Karl Webster Barnes is a distinguished leader in community development and2 historic preservation whose efforts have significantly shaped Atlanta's historic neighborhoods3 and strengthened economic development in underserved areas; and4 WHEREAS, his more than two decades of leadership includes service on the Zoning Review5 Board, the Board of Zoning Adjustment, the Atlanta Renewal Comm unity Coordinating6 Responsible Authority, and the board of Atlanta Emerging Market s Inc., which promotes7 economic development in underserved communities; and8 WHEREAS, as a contract consultant and project manager for the M orehouse College9 Community Revitalization Initiative, he helped secure federal g rants that supported10 entrepreneurship and economic growth in the neighborhoods surro unding the Atlanta11 University Center Consortium; and12 WHEREAS, he played a pivotal role in the expansion of the West End Historic District in13 collaboration with Georgia State Senator Vincent Fort, securing funding under Governor Roy14 Barnes to strengthen its historical recognition and reach; and15 S. R. 333 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0234 WHEREAS, he further conducted research and contributed to the West End Historic District16 nomination presented to the United States Department of the Int erior, the National Park17 Service, and the Urban Design Commission of the City of Atlanta; and18 WHEREAS, his dedication to historic preservation led him to cha ir the Georgia African19 American Historic Preservation Network, where he has worked to protect significant African20 American historic sites and contributed to the nomination of the Adair Park Historic District21 to the National Register of Historic Places; and22 WHEREAS, he has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Land Use and23 Zoning Trailblazer Award from the West End Neighborhood Development organization and24 the Georgia Tech Alumni Association's Trailblazer Award; and25 WHEREAS, Karl Webster Barnes' efforts have left a lasting impact on Atlanta, ensuring that26 its historic neighborhoods are preserved while continuing to foster sustainable growth and27 development, making it fitting and proper that he be appropriately honored.28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body29 commend Karl Webster Barnes for his many exemplary years of ser vice to community30 development and historic preservation as well as extend their best wishes for future health,31 happiness, and success.32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed33 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Karl Webster34 Barnes.35 S.
