25 LC 112 3164 House Resolution 475 By: Representatives Jackson of the 68th, Mitchell of the 88th, McQueen of the 61st, Holly of the 116th, and Scott of the 76th A RESOLUTION Commending the Georgia Minority Supplier Developm ent Council up on its 50th1 anniversary; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Georgia Minority Supplier Development Council (GMSDC) has served as3 the State of Georgia's premier small business development and supplier diversity advocacy4 organization for the past 50 years; and5 WHEREAS, founded in 1975 as the Atlanta Regional Minority Purchasing Council by six6 visionary Georgia corporations—AT&T, the Coca-Cola Company, Cox Communications,7 Delta Air Lines, Georgia Power, and WestRock—the GMSDC has sinc e expanded into a8 leading organization dedicated to strengthening supplier diversity and business development9 across the state; and10 WHEREAS, the GMSDC community consists of more than 400 Georgia corporations and11 government entities that conduct business with the 1,400 small and minority business12 suppliers within the council's ecosystem; and13 WHEREAS, the partnerships cultivated by the GMSDC generate more than $11 billion in14 annual revenue, with an economic impact exceeding $20 billion; and15 H. R. 475 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3164 WHEREAS, the GMSDC's supply chain relations hips support tens of thousands of jobs16 across the state, providing billions of dollars in wages and benefits to Georgia's workforce17 and greatly supporting economic growth; and18 WHEREAS, the GMSDC has further provided vital certification, bu siness development,19 capacity building, mentoring, leadership training, financial resources, and technology support20 to both large and small businesses in Georgia; and21 WHEREAS, the GMSDC spearheads the state's annual Minority Business Opportunity Week22 each September, celebrating the achievements of Georgia's minority-owned businesses and23 recognizing their essential contributions to the state's economy; and24 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le organization be25 appropriately honored during this special time.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body commend the Georgia Minority Supplier Development Council28 upon the grand occasion of its 50th anniversary as well as extend best wishes for continued29 success.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the32 Georgia Minority Supplier Development Council.33 H.
