A RESOLUTION
Commending the McDonough High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps1
Warhawk Battalion; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, composed of students from McDonough High School and eighth graders from3
McDonough Middle School, the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC)4
Warhawk Battalion is both the oldest and one of the most decorated NJROTC units in Henry5
County; and6
WHEREAS, the Warhawk Battalion has been selected as a Distinguished Unit 19 times in7
the last 20 years and has earned Unit Achievement twice, placing it among the top 20 percent8
of over 600 NJROTC units nationwide; and9
WHEREAS, the program is led by Retired Chief Warrant Officer-4 Rawley Colemon, Senior10
Naval Science Instructor; Retired Master Chief Petty Officer Sanja Walker, Naval Science11
Instructor; and Retired Chief Petty Officer Timothy Welch, Naval Science Instructor, whose12
leadership and dedication have greatly contributed to the succe ss of the program and its13
cadets; and14

WHEREAS, in the past five years, eight cadets from the Warhawk Battalion have gained15
entrance into United States service academies while others have pursued higher education16
at institutions such as the University of Georgia, Georgia Stat e University, Morehouse17
College, Spelman College, Savannah State University, Alabama A&M University, Georgia18
Southern University, and Gordon College, among many others; and19
WHEREAS, the Warhawk Battalion emphasizes the importance of community involvement20
through participation in events such as the annual Veterans Day Parade, Christmas Canned21
Food Drive, and Christmas Parade as well as service projects for the Heritage Park Veterans22
Memorial, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, the "Hands-on-Henry" Community23
Clean-up, and Noah's Ark; and24
WHEREAS, the program further enhances cadet development through field trips, including25
an overnight visit to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Isl and in South Carolina,26
exposing cadets to national historical landmarks and military traditions; and27
WHEREAS, through its commitment to leadership, academic excelle nce, and community28
service, the McDonough High School NJROTC Warhawk Battalion continues to shape the29
next generation of disciplined and service-oriented leaders.30
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that31
the members of this body commend the McDonough High School Navy Junior Reserve32
Officers Training Corps Warhawk Battalion for its decades of service to Henry County and33
extend best wishes for the continued success of its cadets.34

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized35
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the36
McDonough High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Warhawk Battalion.37
