25 LC 39 4613 Senate Resolution 348 By: Senator Moore of the 53rd A RESOLUTION Honoring the life of Trooper William Frederick Black, Jr., and dedicating an intersection in1 his memory; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic m en and women who put3 their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in ha rm's way to protect the4 freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and5 WHEREAS, Trooper William Frederick Black, Jr., was a standout football player for Lanier6 High School, where he led the Poets to a state championship; and7 WHEREAS, he went on to study aeronautical engineering at Auburn University, where he8 played basketball and football; and9 WHEREAS, Trooper Black served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the10 United States Army Reserves and graduated among the first class of troopers in Georgia,11 with a badge number of 8; and12 S. R. 348 - 1 - 25 LC 39 4613 WHEREAS, while patrolling on Georgia Highway 41 near Ringgold, Georgia, Trooper13 Black's life was tragically cut short in the line of duty when he was shot during a traffic stop;14 and15 WHEREAS, Trooper Black embodied the spirit of service and willingness to find meaning16 in something greater than himself, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable17 and distinguished Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an intersection in his18 memory.19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL20 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the intersection of State Route 3 and Roach Hollow Road21 in Catoosa County is dedicated as the Trooper William Black, Jr. Memorial Intersection.22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and23 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Trooper William Black, Jr.24 Memorial Intersection.25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed26 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for dis tribution to the family of27 Trooper William Frederick Black, Jr., and to the Department of Transportation.28 S.
