25 LC 112 3145 House Resolution 542 By: Representatives Cannon of the 58th, Bennett of the 94th, Au of the 50th, Glaize of the 67th, Taylor of the 173rd, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Michele Riggs; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Michele Riggs has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours2 of her time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of her c ommunity and state, as3 evidenced dramatically by her more than two decades of superlative service with Wellstar4 Health System; and5 WHEREAS, she began her exemplary career with Wellstar Health System in 2000, serving6 at the Cobb and Kennestone hospitals as a board-certified lacta tion consultant before7 becoming the manager of Maternal Infant Support Services in 2005 and later assuming the8 role of director of Women's Health Patient Education and Support Services; and9 WHEREAS, throughout her career, she has led numerous initiatives to improve breastfeeding10 quality outcomes, including securing Baby Friendly Hospital Des ignation for Wellstar11 Kennestone in 2017, establishing a milk depot, implementing hum an donor milk12 supplementation, and creating employee pumping stations across the system; and13 WHEREAS, she has been instrumental in standardizing women's edu cation, including14 perinatal education classes and support groups, and implementin g system-wide patient15 H. R. 542 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3145 education initiatives, resulting in a 50 percent expansion of v irtual and in-person class16 offerings in English and Spanish; and17 WHEREAS, she has further played a key role in the development o f multiple programs18 designed to improve patient and quality outcomes, including the pilot doula program,19 Wellstar's first pregnancy mobile app, and the I Gave Birth ini tiative, which promotes20 maternal health awareness, emphasizes the importance of prenatal and postpartum care, and21 expedites medical decision-making; and22 WHEREAS, Michele Riggs has served with honor and distinction as part of Wellstar Health23 System, and her vision and unyielding commitment to maternal an d infant health will be24 sorely missed upon the occasion of her retirement; and25 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this26 remarkable and distinguished individual be appropriately recognized.27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that28 the members of this body recognize and commend Michele Riggs for her efficient, effective,29 unselfish, and dedicated career service; congratulate her upon the grand occasion of her30 retirement; and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized32 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to33 Michele Riggs.34 H.
