25 LC 112 3240 House Resolution 518 By: Representatives Okoye of the 102nd, McClain of the 109th, Beckles of the 96th, Adeyina of the 110th, and Jones of the 60th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Dr. Terrence J. Roberts; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Dr. Terrence J. Roberts, a distinguished psychologist, educator, and civil rights2 activist, played a pivotal role in American history as one of t he Little Rock Nine, the3 courageous group of African American students who integrated Central High School in Little4 Rock, Arkansas, in 1957; and5 WHEREAS, he has dedicated 40 years to the field of psychology, practicing as a clinical6 psychologist from 1975 to 2015 in Deer Park and Pasadena, California, while also serving7 as director of mental health services at St. Helena Hospital and Health Center from 1977 to8 1985; and9 WHEREAS, Dr. Roberts has served in higher education as assistant dean of student services10 at UCLA's School of Social Welfare from 1985 to 1993 and as department chair and faculty11 member in psychology at Antioch University, Los Angeles, from 1993 to 2008; and12 WHEREAS, as CEO of Terrence Roberts Consulting, a management co nsulting firm13 originally founded as Terrence J. Roberts and Associates in 1975, he has worked to promote14 H. R. 518 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3240 fair and equitable practices in business and industry, assistin g management personnel in15 creating workplaces conducive to employee growth and development; and16 WHEREAS, a passionate advocate for racial equity, Dr. Roberts has lectured and consulted17 extensively on race and its impact on American society, believing that true progress requires18 the collective rejection of racism; and19 WHEREAS, he has further engaged with educators, law enforcement personnel, and other20 professionals to deepen their understanding of social justice, historical context, and the21 effects of racial bias on contemporary society; and22 WHEREAS, in recognition of his exemplary contributions to civil rights and American23 society, Dr. Roberts has been presented with numerous prestigio us awards, including the24 Congressional Gold Medal, the Pere Marquette Discovery Award, the Spingarn Medal, and25 the Robert S. Abbott Award; and26 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this27 remarkable and distinguished individual be appropriately honored.28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that29 the members of this body recognize and commend Dr. Terrence J. Roberts for his invaluable30 contributions to civil rights, education, and social justice as well as extend best wishes for31 future health and happiness.32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized33 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr.34 Terrence J.
