25 LC 112 3280 Senate Resolution 376 By: Senators Parent of the 44th, Jackson of the 41st, Orrock of the 36th, Kemp of the 38th, Harrell of the 40th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Larry Pellegrini; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Larry Pellegrini has dedicated over 30 years to championing progressive causes2 and advocating for LGBTQ equality at the Georgia State Capitol; and3 WHEREAS, he began his journey in advocacy through his volunteer work with Southern4 Voice and made history as the first openly gay lobbyist at the Georgia State Capitol,5 advocating for LGBTQ rights at a time when such efforts faced significant opposition and6 focusing his early work on sodomy law reform; and7 WHEREAS, Larry Pellegrini participated in the Cracker Barrel campaign, a landmark protest8 movement that directly challenged employment discrimination against LGBTQ individuals9 and influenced broader discussions on domestic partnerships and equality; and10 WHEREAS, he has further served as the executive director of the Georgia Rural Urban11 Summit, which connects rural and urban progressives, as well as a member of the board of12 directors for the Georgia Stonewall Democrats; and13 S. R. 376 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3280 WHEREAS, throughout his career, Larry Pellegrini has demonstrat ed a steadfast14 commitment to uniting diverse groups in the pursuit of justice, fairness, and equality,15 working to combat discriminatory legislation and protect fundamental rights; and16 WHEREAS, he remains a respected leader in Georgia's progressive movement, inspiring a17 new generation of activists to continue the fight for hate crim e protections,18 non-discrimination policies, and other critical legislative advancements; and19 WHEREAS, his exemplary efforts and unwavering dedication to adv ocacy have left an20 enduring mark on Georgia's political landscape and the broader fight for equality, making21 it abundantly fitting and proper that he be appropriately honored.22 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body23 recognize and commend Larry Pellegrini for his remarkable contr ibutions to progressive24 advocacy and LGBTQ rights in Georgia and extend best wishes for future health and25 happiness.26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed27 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Larry Pellegrini.28 S.
