25 LC 112 3343 House Resolution 565 By: Representative Reese of the 140th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett has devoted her career to protecting civil2 liberties and ensuring equality for all, serving as a public defender, civil rights attorney, state3 representative, and United States congresswoman; and4 WHEREAS, since taking office as the United States representativ e for Texas' 30th5 Congressional District in January 2023, she has worked tireless ly to advocate for justice,6 accountability, and accessibility in government while represent ing portions of Dallas and7 Tarrant counties; and8 WHEREAS, in the 118th Congress, she was elected freshman leadership representative, and9 in the 119th Congress, she was appointed vice ranking member of the House Committee on10 Oversight and Government Reform as well as ranking member of th e House Judiciary11 Subcommittee on Oversight; and12 WHEREAS, prior to her congressional service, she was a dedicate d member of the Texas13 House of Representatives, where she was the sole Black freshman and youngest Black14 lawmaker during the 87th Legislative Session; and15 H. R. 565 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3343 WHEREAS, as a state representative, she filed more bills than any other freshman, built a16 broad coalition to pass landmark criminal justice reforms, and co-founded both the Texas17 Progressive Caucus and the Texas Caucus on Climate, Energy, and the Environment; and18 WHEREAS, she further played a critical role as one of the lead architects of the 2021 Texas19 House Quorum Break, which brought national attention to the res trictive voting measures20 being proposed in the legislature; and21 WHEREAS, throughout her career, Congresswoman Crockett has demo nstrated an22 unyielding commitment to civil rights, criminal justice reform, and economic opportunity,23 consistently working to protect the rights of the most vulnerable and ensure a more just and24 equitable society.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26 the members of this body recognize and commend Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett for her27 efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service as well as extend the most sincere28 best wishes for continued health and happiness.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to31 Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett.32 H.
