HB760: HB760 Glynn County; board of commissioners; chairperson and members; change annual salary

This bill amends the 1937 law that created the Glynn County Board of Commissioners, as previously updated in 2001, to change how much the board's chairperson, vice chairperson, and other members are paid. It sets new annual salaries and monthly expense allowances for each position. The bill also adds a rule tying pay to attendance: a board member will not be paid for any month in which they failed to attend at least one regularly scheduled board meeting, unless a majority of the board votes to excuse the absence for illness or other good cause. The changes would take effect July 1, 2025, and any conflicting laws are repealed.

• Sets the Glynn County board chairperson's annual salary at $28,000, paid monthly, plus a $600 monthly expense allowance.
• Sets the vice chairperson's annual salary at $27,000, paid monthly, plus a $600 monthly expense allowance.
• Sets each other board member's annual salary at $26,000, paid monthly, plus a $550 monthly expense allowance.
• Withholds a board member's monthly pay if they miss every regularly scheduled board meeting that month, unless the board excuses the absence by majority vote.
• Sets the effective date of the changes as July 1, 2025, and repeals any conflicting laws.

The chairperson, vice chairperson, and other members of the Glynn County Board of Commissioners are directly affected by the new salary amounts and the attendance-based pay withholding rule.

Glynn County commissioners would see updated pay reflecting current salary levels, but they would also face a financial consequence, losing a month's pay and allowance, if they skip every regular board meeting in that month without an excused reason.

• Section 1 replaces the first unnumbered paragraph of Section 6 of the 1937 Glynn County board of commissioners Act, as amended in 2001, with new salary figures.
• Section 1 also adds a condition withholding monthly compensation from any chairperson, vice chairperson, or member who misses all regularly scheduled meetings in a month, unless excused by majority board vote for illness or good cause.
• Section 2 sets the effective date as July 1, 2025.
• Section 3 repeals all laws and parts of laws in conflict with the Act.
