25 LC 46 1191 House Resolution 595 By: Representative Glaize of the 67th A RESOLUTION Commending all veterans and their families in this state; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic m en and women who put2 their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in ha rm's way to protect the3 freedoms cherished by all United States citizens; and4 WHEREAS, Georgia has always provided its best and brightest sons and daughters to serve5 this country during times of war and peace in the United States Army, Marine Corps, Navy,6 Air Force, Coast Guard, Space Force, Army Reserve, and National Guard; and7 WHEREAS, all of Georgia's veterans, including personnel who served in times of peace or8 war, are to be highly commended for their service, sacrifice, a nd devotion to duty to this9 country; and10 WHEREAS, more than 600,000 veterans of the Armed Forces have ma de Georgia their11 home; and12 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia expresses its sincere appreciation for these individuals and13 the contributions that they have made to the state; and14 H. R. 595 - 1 - 25 LC 46 1191 WHEREAS, the selfless and heroic actions of Georgia veterans stand as a shining tribute to15 the strength of the human spirit and willpower, and it is abund antly fitting and proper that16 the outstanding accomplishments of these remarkable and disting uished Americans and17 Georgians be appropriately recognized and rewarded; and18 WHEREAS, at present, up to $17,500.00 a year of income received by an individual who is19 less than 62 years of age paid to such individual as retirement benefits from military service20 in the armed forces of the United States or the reserve components thereof may be exempt21 from state income taxes and an additional $17,500.00 a year may be exempted if such22 veteran has Georgia earned income otherwise included in his or her taxable income in an23 amount that exceeds $17,500.00; and24 WHEREAS, at present, up to $35,000.00 a year of income received by an individual who is25 between the ages of 62 and 65 is paid to such individual as retirement benefits from military26 service in the armed forces of the United States or the reserve components thereof; and27 WHEREAS, due in part to the challenges faced by Georgia veterans and veterans across the28 country during their service, they often need to retire prior to their contemporaries who did29 not serve in the armed forces; and30 WHEREAS, increasing these exemptions described in this resolution would recognize and31 honor the service of Georgia veterans.32 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that33 the members of this body commend and honor all Georgia veterans and their efficient,34 effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the residents of Georgia and citizens of35 the United States of America.36 H.
