25 LC 129 0369 House Resolution 626 By: Representatives Reese of the 140th, Hugley of the 141st, and Buckner of the 137th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Reverend Sherryl Harris King on the occasion of her 20th1 pastoral anniversary; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Reverend Sherryl Harris King has demonstrated her commitment to teaching3 the Gospel, witnessing Christ through word and deed, and addres sing the physical,4 psychological, intellectual, and spiritual needs of others; and5 WHEREAS, Reverend Sherryl Harris King was called by the Lord 20 years ago to lead the6 congregation of Peters Chapel A.M.E. Church in Columbus, Georgia; and 7 WHEREAS, her vision and direction have helped Peters Chapel A.M.E. Church grow in size8 and influence, uplifting the community like the light of Bethlehem and serving as a spiritual9 leader and place for fellowship; and10 WHEREAS, over the past two decades leading Peters Chapel A.M.E. Church, Reverend11 Sherryl Harris King has established numerous programs and works hops which have12 improved the spiritual and educational growth of the church and the surrounding community;13 and14 H. R. 626 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0369 WHEREAS, Reverend Sherryl Harris King has led the church to focusing on being healthy15 physically well, partnering with the Alter Program of Emory Uni versity to teach African16 American churches how to minister to those dealing with dementi a and with Dr. Henry17 Young of the University of Georgia focusing on the prevention of type II diabetes; and18 WHEREAS, under her leadership the church started the Home Touch Ministry for those19 dealing with dementia, giving them opportunities to get out of the home and to complete20 activities and to fellowship with others; and21 WHEREAS, whether the task is preparing a sermon, visiting the s ick, counseling the22 troubled, baptizing a new believer, or acting as a theologian, educator, administrator, or23 humanitarian, Reverend Sherryl Harris King serves as a shining example of God's righteous24 path; and25 WHEREAS, the unmatched spiritual assistance offered by Reverend Sherryl Harris King is26 a source of strength and direction for persons in all walks of life; and27 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper to recognize the outstanding accomplishments28 of the dynamic Christian ministry of this devout and pious woman.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that30 the members of this body recognize and commend Reverend Sherryl Harris King on the31 wonderful occasion of her 20th pastoral anniversary and extend best wishes for many more32 years of successful fellowship and leadership.33 H.
