25 LC 129 0347 Senate Resolution 404 By: Senators McLaurin of the 14th, Payne of the 54th, Harbison of the 15th, Kirkpatrick of the 32nd, Islam Parkes of the 7th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the Emory Healthcare Veterans Progra m upon its 10th1 anniversary; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, in 2015, Emory University and Emory Healthcare, with t he support of the3 Wounded Warrior Project, established the Emory Healthcare Veterans Program; and 4 WHEREAS, the Emory Healthcare Veterans Program is a center of excellence dedicated to5 helping veterans and active-duty service members heal their inv isible wounds, such as6 post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, military sexual trauma, anxiety, depression, and7 related conditions; and 8 WHEREAS, in its ten years of existence, the Emory Healthcare Veterans Program has served9 more than 3,500 veterans and active duty service members, providing them with effective,10 evidence-based, holistic mental health care; and11 WHEREAS, the Emory Healthcare Veterans Program's flagship treat ment plan, the12 two-week Accelerated Brain Health Program, has significantly tr ansformed the lives of13 graduating veterans and active-duty service members, with more than 75 percent seeing14 clinically significant improvements in their symptoms; and15 S. R. 404 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0347 WHEREAS, to remove any and all barriers that veterans or servic e-members may have16 preventing them from seeking treatment, all transportation, mea ls, lodging, activities, and17 clinical treatment are provided at no cost to post-9/11 veterans or their families; and18 WHEREAS, while the Emory Healthcare Veterans Program will serve veterans or19 service-members from anywhere in the country, it has served more members of the military20 community from Georgia than anywhere else, with nearly 2,000 Ge orgians receiving21 treatment; and22 WHEREAS, the Emory Healthcare Veterans Program has served the state of Georgia as a23 member of the Department of Veterans Services' Returning Veteran Task Force, and as part24 of the Governor's Challenge to Prevent Suicide in Service membe rs, Veterans, and their25 Families, which Governor Kemp signed at the Emory's clinic; and26 WHEREAS, since post traumatic stress and depression have been identified as a significant27 risk factors for and as an underlying cause of military suicide, the work done by the Emory28 Healthcare Veterans Program to heal invisible wounds has saved the lives of many veterans29 and active-duty service members.30 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body31 recognize the Emory Healthcare Veterans Program upon its 10th a nniversary for the32 significant impact it has made to transform and save the lives of veterans and active-duty33 service members.34 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed35 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to the Emory36 Healthcare Veterans Program.37 S.
