25 LC 129 0282 House Resolution 721 By: Representatives Myles of the 126th and Howard of the 129th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Reverend Anthony Maurice Booker; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Reverend Anthony Maurice Booker has demonstrated his c ommitment to2 teaching the Gospel, witnessing Christ through word and deed, and addressing the physical,3 psychological, intellectual, and spiritual needs of others; and4 WHEREAS, he was called by the Lord in 1992, and in February of 1994, Pastor Booker was5 ordained in the gospel ministry by his grandfather, the late Reverend Walter Booker Jr.; and6 WHEREAS, God in his infinite wisdom placed him as pastor of the New Hope Baptist7 Church of Harlem, in January 1997, one month after the retiring of his grandfather; and8 WHEREAS, his vision and direction helped New Hope Baptist Churc h grow in size and9 influence, uplifting the community like the light of Bethlehem and serving as a spiritual10 leader and place for fellowship; and11 WHEREAS, Pastor Booker served the congregation of New Hope Bapt ist Church for 2312 years; and13 H. R. 721 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0282 WHEREAS, on February 8, 2020, Broa dway Baptist Church in August a, Georgia, called14 Pastor Booker as their eleventh Pastor; and15 WHEREAS, Pastor Booker has lead Broadway Baptist Church in a to tal renovation and16 upgrade project, birthed several new ministries, and has established the Missional purpose17 as "Empowering People to Impact the World"; and18 WHEREAS, he presently serves as President of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Augusta,19 is a Board member of the Downtown Development Authority of Augusta, and is President20 and CEO of South Augusta Community Development Corporation, Inc; an21 WHEREAS, whether the task is preparing a sermon, visiting the s ick, counseling the22 troubled, baptizing a new believer, or acting as a theologian, educator, administrator, or23 humanitarian, Pastor Booker serves as a shining example of God's righteous path; and24 WHEREAS, the unmatched spiritual assistance offered by Pastor B ooker is a source of25 strength and direction for persons in all walks of life; and26 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this enduring example of God's message27 of peace and love be recognized and congratulated for his innumerable good works rendered28 on behalf of persons in need.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that30 the members of this body recognize and commend Reverend Anthony Maurice Booker and31 extend best wishes for many more years of successful fellowship and leadership32 H.
