A RESOLUTION
Commending and congratulating Calvin George Kemp Sr.; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, Calvin George Kemp Sr. was born on June 2, 1923, in At lanta, Georgia, and2
this year he enjoys the rare distinction of celebrating his 102nd birthday; and3
WHEREAS, the devotion, patience, and understanding he has demonstrated have provided4
the foundation of success from which his family members have developed and flourished,5
as evidenced by his two wonderful children, four outstanding grandchildren, five exceptional6
great-grandchildren, and three cherished great-great-grandchildren; and7
WHEREAS, he honorably served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the8
United States Navy during World War II, during which he was stationed in the South Pacific9
Islands and Pearl Harbor; and10
WHEREAS, a man of great faith, Calvin George Kemp Sr. has remai ned an active and11
devoted member of Saint Philip African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he serves on the12
Usher and Steward Boards, Finance Committee, and as director of the Seniors and Retirees13
Program; and14

WHEREAS, he has dedicated much of his life to mentoring and guiding younger generations15
through his service as a scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America and as a little league16
baseball coach, helping to instill the values of leadership, teamwork, and perseverance in the17
youth of his community; and18
WHEREAS, he has further shared his knowledge and skills as a br ick mason instructor at19
Atlanta Medical College, helping to train and empower individua ls in skilled trades that20
provide lasting career opportunities; and21
WHEREAS, he has witnessed a dramatic change in the world over the course of his lifetime,22
and we salute his contribution to its progress through his tire less efforts on behalf of his23
community, state, and nation; and24
WHEREAS, by the example Calvin George Kemp Sr. has made of his life, he makes this25
world a better place in which to live, and it is only fitting and proper that he be appropriately26
recognized during this very special and memorable time.27
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body28
commend Calvin George Kemp Sr. for his unselfish, dedicated, an d loving service to the29
members of his family and community; congratulate him on the remarkable occasion of his30
102nd birthday; and extend their most sincere best wishes for c ontinued health and31
happiness.32
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed33
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Calvin George34
Kemp Sr.35
