25 LC 39 4803 House Resolution 814 By: Representatives Crowe of the 118th and Washburn of the 144th A RESOLUTION Recognizing the Honorable Susan Holmes and dedicating a road in her honor; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Honorable Susan Holmes has long been recognized by the citizens of this3 state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment4 to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and5 WHEREAS, a seventh generation citizen of Jasper County, Georgia, Representative Holmes6 was raised on a cotton farm in the community of Farrar in northern Jasper County, graduated7 from Monticello High School, and earned her bachelor's degree f rom the University of8 Georgia; and9 WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time,10 talent, and energy to the citizens of Butts, Jones, and Monroe counties since 2010 as the State11 Representative for House District 129; and12 WHEREAS, Representative Holmes serves as vice chairman of the A griculture and13 Consumer Affairs and Special Rules committees, as secretary of the Energy, Utilities, and 14 H. R. 814 - 1 - 25 LC 39 4803 Telecommunications and Legislative and Congressional Reapportionment committees, and15 as a member of the Economic Development and Tourism Committee; and 16 WHEREAS, prior to her service in the Georgia House of Represent atives, she served as17 mayor of the City of Monticello for 12 years, serving as the first female mayor for the city;18 and19 WHEREAS, Representative Holmes has been recognized with numerous honors and awards,20 including Monticello-Jasper County Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce, 10021 Most Influential Georgians by Georgia Trend Magazine , Northeast Georgia's Most22 Outstanding Citizen, and the Georgia Downtown Association's Out standing Leadership23 Award; and 24 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished25 Georgian be appropriately recognized by dedicating a road in her honor.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL27 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the portion of State Route 11 from Maddox Street to West28 Greene Street in Jasper County is dedicated as the Honorable Susan Holmes Highway.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and30 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Honorable Susan Holmes31 Highway.32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized33 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the34 Honorable Susan Holmes and to the Department of Transportation.35 H.
