25 LC 129 0400 House Resolution 826 By: Representatives Sharper of the 177th, Mitchell of the 88th, Willis of the 55th, Henderson of the 113th, and Moore of the 91st A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Rashan Ali Smith; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, with a passion for sports and entertainment, Rashan Ali Smith, born in Atlanta,2 Georgia, and raised in Decatur, has established herself as a revered multimedia personality;3 and4 WHEREAS, an honor graduate of Florida A&M University, she has had candid perspective5 on local Atlanta radio for nearly 15 years on HOT 107.9, V-103 and Streetz 94.5, helping to6 propel those stations' ratings to top five in the market; and7 WHEREAS, lending her talents to sports television, she worked a s a sports anchor for8 Headlines News and CNN as well as a sideline reporter for CBS Sports Network, covering9 college football and basketball for four seasons; and10 WHEREAS, Rashan delivered her unique and personable perspective as one of four co-hosts11 on the nationally syndicated daily talk show, Sister Circle Live on TV One for three seasons;12 and13 H. R. 826 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0400 WHEREAS, she currently hosts "The Cool Soror Podcast," a show in which she created to14 highlight outstanding women and men in Black Greek Lettered Organizations; and15 WHEREAS, her passion and purpose are deeply tied to the community; she is the founder16 of Sporty Girls, Inc., a non-profit organization that encourages the development of life and17 academic skills in girls ages 8-18 through participation in golf, tennis, soccer, swimming, and18 lacrosse; and 19 WHEREAS, since its inception in 2006, Sporty Girls, Inc., has served nearly 2,000 girls in20 the Metro Atlanta area; and21 WHEREAS, Rashan is planning to relaunch Sporty Girls, Inc., in 2025; and22 WHEREAS, Rashan has also published and released a vibrant children’s book called "Piper23 Sky’s Pink Popsicle Shoes," based on the likeness of her own daughters as it follows the lead24 character, Piper Sky, and her quest to help her friends find their own magic; and25 WHEREAS, Rashan is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority , Inc., where she26 serves internationally on the honorary and awards committee; and 27 WHEREAS, she currently has a recurring role on a top-rated show under the Tyler Perry28 print on BET+; and29 WHEREAS, she has been married to Brian Smith for 22 years and they have two daughters;30 Bailey, a freshman at Howard University, and Carter, a 9th grader; and31 WHEREAS, Rashan lives by the motto, “Giving is the rent we pay for living."32 H. R. 826 - 2 - 25 LC 129 0400 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that33 the members of this body recognize and commend Rashan Ali Smith and extend sincere best34 wishes for her continued health, happiness, and success. 35 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized36 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to37 Rashan Ali Smith.38 H.
