Senate Resolution 498

A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending the North Fayette Community Associat ion; and for other1
purposes.2
WHEREAS, the North Fayette Community Association (NFCA) was fou nded in August3
2001 by local homeowners to address shared issues, interests, a nd concerns affecting the4
North Fayette community and was officially chartered as a non-p rofit, non-partisan5
organization in October 2001; and6
WHEREAS, the NFCA was born out of a collective sense of under-r epresentation at the7
county level and limited access to support, services, resources , and amenities, inspiring8
residents to organize for change; and9
WHEREAS, the NFCA has since successfully defended the community from inappropriate10
developments such as the construction of a service station at t he intersection of Highways11
279 and 314, which would have posed serious challenges to the community; and12
WHEREAS, in 2009, then-NFCA President Johnnie E. Jones Jr. led a major effort to correct13
unfair taxation practices that resulted in residents paying taxes to both Clayton and Fulton14

counties on large purchases, ultimately securing a zip code reassignment to the Fayetteville15
Postal System and increasing tax revenue for Fayette County; and16
WHEREAS, the boundaries of North Fayette span from north of Geo rgia Highway 54 to17
Highway 138, east of Highway 74, and west of Highway 85, forming a vital region that has18
grown from 31,256 residents in 2000 to more than three times that number today; and19
WHEREAS, North Fayette is home to many active and vibrant subdi visions, including20
Country Lake, Briarfield, Greer Woods, Westbridge I and II, Northridge, Princeton Chase,21
Providence, Hampstead Heath, Dix-Lee-On, Newton Plantation, and homes along Highways22
279 and 314; and23
WHEREAS, under the leadership of President Bobby Ferrell, the NFCA remains steadfast24
in its mission to ensure safe neighborhoods, support schools, p revent crime, preserve25
property values, and promote a high quality of life within North Fayette.26
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27
recognize and commend the North Fayette Community Association f or its unwavering28
dedication to community advocacy as well as extend best wishes for continued success in all29
future endeavors.30
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the North Fayette32
Community Association.33
