A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Kimia Irmesha Flournoy on Women Veterans Appreciation1
Day at the Capitol; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, Kimia Irmesha Flournoy served as a guardian of this na tion's freedom and3
liberty with the United States Marine Corps, valiantly and courageously protecting her fellow4
Americans from 1998 to 2006; and5
WHEREAS, during her tenure in the military, she was stationed at seven different bases and6
was deployed in Norway and Iraq; and7
WHEREAS, her awards and military decorations include the Presidential Unit Citation (1st8
FSSG), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbonwith9
1 star, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, three Meritorious Masts, and10
three Letters of Appreciation; and11
WHEREAS, she relocated to metro Atlanta after her departure from the military, where she12
took on leadership roles in various veteran service organizatio ns such as Commander of13
American Legion Mundy-Beck Post 9-1-1 for four years, the Atlan ta Mobile Food14
Distribution Coordinator for Soldiers Angels for two years, Tea m Lead for Minority15

Veterans of America (Atlanta Chapter) for two years, Project Co ordinator for Society's16
Gardeners, Team RWB Atlanta Chapter Captain for two years, musi cian and coach with17
Alchemy Sky Veterans Music Project, and was The Mission Continues Atlanta 3rd Platoon18
Leader for three years; and19
WHEREAS, this distinguished gentlewoman has given inspiration to many through her high20
ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens, and she possesses the vast wisdom21
which only comes through experience and the strength of charact er which is achieved22
through overcoming the many challenges of life; and23
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstandi ng contributions of this24
exemplary veteran are appropriately honored.25
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body26
recognize and commend Kimia Irmesha Flournoy for the dedication, bravery, and sacrifices27
she has made to serve her country and extend sincere best wishes for her continued health,28
happiness, and success. 29
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed30
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Kimia Irmesha31
Flournoy.32
