A RESOLUTION
Honoring and celebrating the 80th birthday of Marilyn Arrington; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, born on March 4, 1945, in Rome, Georgia, Marilyn Arrington has dedicated her2
life to education, service, and community advocacy; and3
WHEREAS, she is a proud graduate of Clark College, Class of 196 6, and furthered her4
education by obtaining both a master's and a specialist's degre e from Georgia State5
University, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to lifelong learning, including her6
enrollment in a doctoral program at Georgia State University in 2021; and7
WHEREAS, Marilyn Arrington dedicated over 30 years to shaping y oung minds in the8
Atlanta Public Schools system, beginning her career at the historic Booker T. Washington9
High School and later extending her impact by teaching GED prep aration at Atlanta10
Technical College, helping countless students achieve their educational goals; and11
WHEREAS, she has exemplified a spirit of service and leadership for over 50 years as a12
Golden Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and as a charter member of13
the Pi Alpha Omega Chapter, established in 1985; and14

WHEREAS, she has also been a distinguished alumnae member of The Links, Incorporated,15
Azalea City Chapter, and an active member of the Clark Atlanta University Guild, further16
strengthening her commitment to education, mentorship, and community enrichment; and17
WHEREAS, as a devoted and longtime member of Cascade United Met hodist Church for18
over 40 years, she has served on the Executive Board, providing leadership and guidance to19
her faith community; and20
WHEREAS, Marilyn Arrington is a proud resident of Southwest Atlanta, where she has lived21
on Cascade Road for 44 years, making a lasting impact as a community servant, advocate,22
and engaged neighbor; and23
WHEREAS, she is known for her love of the arts and entertainment, her adventurous spirit24
as a member of the Nature Gurlz, and her deep commitment to fam ily as a mother,25
grandmother, aunt, niece, sister, and friend; and26
WHEREAS, as she celebrates this milestone 80th birthday, it is fitting and proper to27
recognize her extraordinary contributions, enduring legacy, and the countless lives she has28
touched throughout her journey.29
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body30
honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Marilyn Arrington, e xtend heartfelt31
congratulations on her 80th birthday, and express profound grat itude for her decades of32
service, leadership, and unwavering dedication to education and community empowerment.33
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed34
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Marilyn Arrington.35
