25 LC 112 3623 House Resolution 919 By: Representatives Scott of the 76th, Schofield of the 63rd, and Davis of the 87th A RESOLUTION Commending Yasmeen Salam; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, fourth-generation agriculturalist Yasmeen Salam has established herself as an2 exemplary agribusiness consultant with deep expertise in chain management, marketing, and3 last-mile distribution over the past decade; and4 WHEREAS, inspired by the legacy of George Washington Carver, sh e founded Carver's5 Produce in 2013 to increase access to healthy food across Atlan ta by empowering and6 equipping farmers and food entrepreneurs with the tools and resources needed to scale their7 businesses; and8 WHEREAS, she is the pioneer of one of Atlanta's first mobile farmers markets at commercial9 business sites, revolutionizing how small farmers and food startups emerge into new markets,10 and her work has expanded the presence of Black farmers in the Black Belt region; and11 WHEREAS, Yasmeen Salam further serves as founder of Umoja Groce r, America's first12 smart vending machine offering 24/7 access to beloved BIPOC food brands such as Tassili's13 Raw Reality, Pride Road, and Jayida Che; and14 H. R. 919 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3623 WHEREAS, her commitment to the community is evidenced by her co nsultant work with15 the MSOA School Garden, her role in the Atlanta Masjid of Al Islam mobile farmers market16 initiative and halal market redesign, and her efforts in developing citywide aggregation and17 distribution models; and18 WHEREAS, her influence extends globally as a consultant to municipalities and agencies,19 including Aglanta (City of Atlanta), the City of Tuskegee, Tema (Ghana), and Abuja20 (Nigeria); and21 WHEREAS, Yasmeen Salam has earned many awards and honors for her outstanding work,22 including recognition as one of ten women to receive an enterprise investment from the Sara23 Blakely Foundation and highlights in both Atlanta Magazine and Sapelo Square; and24 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this distingu ished individual be25 appropriately honored during this special time.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body commend Yasmeen Salam for her innumerable contributions on28 behalf of the citizens of this state and beyond as well as exte nd best wishes for continued29 success in her future endeavors.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to32 Yasmeen Salam.33 H.
