25 LC 112 3638 Senate Resolution 537 By: Senators Esteves of the 35th and Kemp of the 38th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the contributions of Poder Latinx in Georgia; and for other 1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, Poder Latinx, a nonpartisan, nonprofit civic and social justice organization, has3 long advocated on behalf of the Latino community in the United States, committed to4 enhancing voter registration and participation within the Latino community; and5 WHEREAS, founded in 2019, this esteemed organization has been instrumental in raising6 awareness about issues affecting the Latino population, such as the economy, environment,7 and civic engagement, thereby fostering a more informed and engaged electorate; and8 WHEREAS, this organization leads year-round voter engagement and issue-based advocacy9 campaigns through civic engagement programs to encourage eligible voters to participate and10 contribute to this country's democracy; and11 WHEREAS, this group has demonstrated an unwavering dedication t o informing and12 empowering the Hispanic community by providing comprehensive vo ter education and13 information in both English and Spanish and working to fill eng agement gaps within the14 Hispanic community throughout election cycles; and15 S. R. 537 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3638 WHEREAS, the work done in Georgia has led to 3,792 new and updated voter registrations16 of eligible voters, 800,155 calls and 145,340 texts made to constituents, and 124,608 doors17 knocked to encourage civic participation during important electoral events, strengthening our18 local and national democracy; and19 WHEREAS, their advocacy has played a key role in bridging the g ap for Latino voters by20 addressing barriers such as language accessibility, access to a ccurate state election21 information, and culturally relevant community engagement and h as been instrumental in22 getting out the vote in Georgia's general and runoff elections for the past four years through23 youth voter registration drives, providing crucial election information to Spanish-speaking24 voters, advocating for language accessibility in voting materia ls, and canvassing25 Hispanic-majority neighborhoods to strengthen the state's election infrastructure; and26 WHEREAS, the organization empowers the next generation of Latin o leaders through27 leadership development programs, including the Poderosas Fellowship, which equips young28 Latinas with the tools needed to engage in their communities and fulfill their civic duty, and29 initiatives focused on engaging Latino voters to strengthen their participation in democracy;30 and31 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstandi ng work of this fine32 organization and its numerous contributions to the Latino commu nity be appropriately33 recognized.34 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body35 commend Poder Latinx for its work uplifting the lives of Latino Americans and for its36 outstanding commitment to advancing voter registration, education, and participation among37 the Latino community.38 S.
