25 LC 112 3672 House Resolution 957 By: Representatives Bell of the 75th, Berry of the 56th, Reese of the 140th, Schofield of the 63rd, Scott of the 76th, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing April 5, 2025, as Run Atlanta 5K Day; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, the 100 Black Men of Atlanta Inc., under the leadershi p of Chairman Sid2 Barron, proudly presents the Run Atlanta 5K, an event that symb olizes a collective3 commitment to health, wellness, and the reduction of violence in our communities; and4 WHEREAS, this event will unite individuals across the City of A tlanta and the State of5 Georgia in promoting physical well-being, peace, and safety; and6 WHEREAS, the Health and Wellness Committee of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta, led by7 Dr. Winston Carhee, will focus on promoting the importance of fitness, healthy living, and8 disease prevention through the 5K race and related activities, and the Violence Prevention9 Committee, led by Joshua Byrd, will host the Sunrise Prayer for Violence Prevention and the10 Walk for Peace & Well-being, all of which reflects a collective resolve to combat gun11 violence and work toward a peaceful future for our youth, families, and neighborhoods; and12 WHEREAS, this event serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoin g need to address the13 impact of violence on our communities, particularly as we honor the life of Kenneth Collier14 Jr., a 17-year-old advocate for peace who tragically lost his life to gun violence and whose15 H. R. 957 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3672 story, alongside that of his mother, Tamika Trimble, who was also a victim of gun violence,16 underscores the urgency of our shared mission to prevent future tragedies like theirs; and17 WHEREAS, the 100 Black Men of Atlanta stands alongside local leaders, organizations, and18 judicial officials in Fulton County and across Georgia, working together to end violence and19 create safer environments for all residents, and their unwaveri ng commitment to justice,20 peace, and community empowerment makes it possible for us to envision and work toward21 a brighter, more peaceful future; and22 WHEREAS, the Run Atlanta 5K event offers an opportunity for us all to come together in23 solidarity while promoting the values of health, wellness, and violence prevention that are24 crucial to building strong, thriving communities, and we celebr ate this initiative and25 encourage all citizens to participate, support the cause, and continue working toward a future26 free from violence.27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that28 the members of this body recognize April 5, 2025, as Run Atlanta 5K Day.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the31 public and the press.32 H.
