25 LC 112 3648 House Resolution 993 By: Representatives Cannon of the 58th, Bennett of the 94th, McQueen of the 61st, and Davis of the 87th A RESOLUTION Commending Kimberly Seals Allers and recognizing April 11, 2025 , as Irth Day; and for1 other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Kimberly Seals Allers is an award-winning journalist, five-time author,3 international speaker, strategist, and nationally recognized advocate for maternal and infant4 health equity; and5 WHEREAS, she has served as a senior editor at ESSENCE and as a writer at FORTUNE6 magazine, lending her voice and talents to prominent platforms while addressing the racial7 and socio-cultural complexities of birth, breast-feeding, and motherhood; and8 WHEREAS, Kimberly Seals Allers further serves as the founder of Irth, a digital platform9 designed as a "Yelp-like" app and aimed at addressing bias and racism in maternity and10 infant care; and11 WHEREAS, she is also the creator of Birthright, a podcast that centers joyful and healing12 Black birth stories to reclaim the narrative of Black maternal experiences and offer a13 counterbalance to the often-negative statistics reported in mainstream media; and14 H. R. 993 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3648 WHEREAS, through her work with Irth and Birthright, Kimberly Seals Allers continues to15 pioneer innovative tools and storytelling initiatives that upli ft communities and promote16 respectful, equitable maternity and infant care; and17 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le individual be18 appropriately honored during this special time.19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that20 the members of this body commend Kimberly Seals Allers for her groundbreaking21 contributions to maternal and infant health equity, recognize April 11, 2025, as Irth Day, and22 extend best wishes for continued success.23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized24 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to25 Kimberly Seals Allers.26 H.
