25 LC 129 0481 House Resolution 955 By: Representatives Bell of the 75th, Berry of the 56th, Reese of the 140th, Schofield of the 63rd, Scott of the 76th, and others A RESOLUTION Honoring T.I. for his contributions to Bankhead, Atlanta, and global culture; and for other1 purposes. 2 WHEREAS, T.I., born Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., has emerged as one of the most influential3 and respected figures in hip-hop, music, and entertainment, contributing immeasurably to the4 growth of Atlanta’s music scene, the culture of Bankhead, and t he global recognition of5 Southern rap; and6 WHEREAS, hailing from Bankhead, T.I. has used his platform to elevate and represent his7 community, often serving as the voice of resilience, authentici ty, and street knowledge,8 bridging the gap between Atlanta’s underground scene and mainstream success; and9 WHEREAS, T.I. rose to prominence with his debut album I'm Serious in 2001, and solidified10 his place as one of hip-hop's leading figures with the release of "Trap Muzik" (2003) and11 subsequent albums, including "Urban Legend" (2004), "King" (200 6), and "Paper Trail"12 (2008), producing iconic tracks that shaped the sound of Southern rap; and13 WHEREAS, T.I.’s “King of the South” moniker not only highlights his influence in hip-hop14 but also reflects his impact on the broader culture, where he served as a trendsetter in fashion,15 H. R. 955 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0481 language, and entrepreneurship, playing a critical role in popu larizing trap music and16 Southern rap across the nation and globally; and17 WHEREAS, in addition to his musical accomplishments, T.I. has b e c o m e a p r o m i n e n t18 businessman, philanthropist, and community leader—founding his label Grand Hustle19 Records, signing groundbreaking artists, and promoting positive change through ventures20 like his "I’m Me" foundation, which advocates for the youth and promotes education,21 mentorship, and social justice; and22 WHEREAS, T.I.’s advocacy extends beyond music, as he is a vocal leader on issues of23 criminal justice reform, education, and economic empowerment, using his platform to engage24 in public discourse and actively contribute to initiatives aimed at transforming his community25 and improving the lives of those most vulnerable; and26 WHEREAS, T.I. has been honored with numerous accolades, including Grammy Awards,27 BET Hip Hop Awards, and recognition as one of the most influential artists of his generation,28 maintaining his status as an icon in hip-hop culture and as a representative of Bankhead and29 Atlanta on the global stage.30 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that31 the members of this body honor T.I. for his outstanding contributions to the cultural, musical,32 and social fabric of Bankhead, Atlanta, and the world, recognizing his dedication to uplifting33 his community, shaping the future of Southern rap, and inspirin g the next generation of34 artists and leaders.35 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized36 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to T.I.37 H.
