## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the bill. Quote the text, not the summary.

A House bill sets new per diem pay rates for the Echols County Board of Education, capping total monthly compensation for board members at $600.

### Plain-language summary

This bill changes how members of the Echols County Board of Education are paid for their service. Under the bill, the board chairperson and members receive a per diem (a set payment for each day of service) for attending regular board meetings, and a separate $50.00 per diem for each day they attend called meetings or training sessions. The bill caps total compensation for any board member, including the chairperson, at $600.00 per calendar month regardless of how many meetings they attend.
The law would take effect on the first day of the month after it is signed by the Governor, or after it becomes law without the Governor's signature. The bill also repeals any prior laws that conflict with these new pay rules for the Echols County board.

### What it does

- Sets a per diem payment for the Echols County Board of Education chairperson and members for each day they attend regular board meetings.
- Sets a $50.00 per diem for each day the chairperson or members attend called meetings, including training sessions.
- Caps total compensation for the chairperson or any board member at $600.00 for any calendar month, no matter how many meetings occur.
- Repeals any existing local laws that conflict with these new compensation rules for the Echols County board.
- Sets the effective date as the first day of the month following the bill's approval by the Governor or its becoming law without approval.

### Who it affects

The chairperson and members of the Echols County Board of Education, whose pay for attending regular and called board meetings would be set by this local law.

### Why it matters

For the small number of people who serve on the Echols County Board of Education, this bill determines exactly how much they are paid per meeting and caps their total monthly pay, affecting the financial incentive and compensation structure for serving on the local school board.

### Key provisions

- Section 1 sets a per diem for the chairperson and members for each day of attendance at regular board meetings and $50.00 for each day of attendance at called meetings or training sessions.
- Section 1 caps total monthly compensation for the chairperson and members at $600.00 regardless of the number of meetings attended.
- Section 2 sets the effective date as the first day of the month after the Governor signs the bill or after it becomes law without the Governor's signature.
