House Bill 1467 By: Representatives Fleming of the 114th, Gullett of the 19th, Momtahan of the 17th, Scoggins of the 14th, and Kelley of the 16th A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT To amend Chapter 2 of Title 21 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to elections and primaries generally, so as to provide that motor-voter applications shall be opt-in instead of opt-out; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: SECTION 1. Chapter 2 of Title 21 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to elections and primaries generally, is amended by revising subsection (a) of Code Section 21-2-221, relating to driver's license or identification card application as application for voter registration, as follows: "(a) Each application to obtain, renew, or change the name or address on a driver's license or identification card issued by the Department of Driver Services pursuant to Chapter 5 of Title 40 made by an applicant who is within six months of such applicant's eighteenth birthday or older shall may, if eligible, also serve as an application for voter registration unless the applicant declines to register to vote through specific declination or by failing to sign the voter registration application. The applicant may sign the voter registration application to register to vote or to update the voter's registration if the voter has changed his or her address." SECTION 2. All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
