## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the bill. Quote the text, not the summary.

House Bill 747 raises the pay of the chief judge and Division 1 judges of the State Court of Cobb County, adjusting compensation figures set in the court's original 1964 charter.

### Plain-language summary

The State Court of Cobb County was created by a 1964 Georgia law that has been amended over the years, including to set judicial pay. This bill updates two of those pay figures.
First, it raises the additional compensation paid to the chief judge of the State Court of Cobb County from $10,892.55 per year to $11,328.25 per year. Second, it raises the salary of the judges of Division 1 of the State Court of Cobb County from $208,782.88 per year to $217,134.20 per year. The bill repeals any conflicting laws. It does not change any other part of the court's structure, jurisdiction, or duties, only these two compensation amounts.

### What it does

- Raises the chief judge of the State Court of Cobb County's additional annual compensation from $10,892.55 to $11,328.25.
- Raises the annual salary for Division 1 judges of the State Court of Cobb County from $208,782.88 to $217,134.20.
- Repeals any existing laws that conflict with these new compensation figures.

### Who it affects

This bill directly affects the chief judge and the Division 1 judges of the State Court of Cobb County, whose pay changes, and indirectly touches Cobb County's court administration and budget for judicial salaries.

### Why it matters

The pay raises mean the affected Cobb County judges will earn more per year, which could affect the county's budget for court salaries. The change is narrow and applies only to this specific court's leadership pay, not to judges statewide.

### Key provisions

- Section 1 amends Section 3 of Part 1 of the 1964 Act to raise the chief judge's additional compensation to $11,328.25 per year.
- Section 2 amends Section 23 of Part 1 to raise Division 1 judges' salary to $217,134.20 per year.
- Section 3 repeals any conflicting laws, a standard clause ensuring the new figures take precedence.
