House Resolution 1010 By: Representatives Cannon of the 58th, Williams of the 168th, Barnes of the 86th, and McClain of the 109th A RESOLUTION Recognizing the Rustin/Lorde Community Breakfast; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, The Southern Unity Movement Inc. proudly announces the 25th annual Rustin/Lorde Community Breakfast on January 19, 2026, at 9 a.m. at the Loudermilk Conference Center in Atlanta; and WHEREAS, the event brings together community members to celebrate and advance the values of inclusion, justice, and activism inspired by civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, architect of the 1963 March on Washington, and Audre Lorde, feminist, poet, and equal rights activist; and WHEREAS, founded in January 2002, the Rustin/Lorde Breakfast has become a cornerstone event, offering attendees a unique opportunity before participating in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day March; and WHEREAS, the breakfast aims to provide a platform for attendees to connect and share experiences, educate communities about ongoing issues of inequality as well as the lives and contributions of Bayard Rustin, Audre Lorde, and other activists, and enhances mutual support and continued learning among participants working for social justice; and WHEREAS, this year's event is hosted by Lisa Cunningham, Executive Vice President at the Black Women's Health Imperative, and will feature two keynote speakers: Alexis Pauline Gumbs, author of Survival is a Promise: the Eternal Life of Audre Lorde, and Marcus Lee, Assistant Professor at Princeton University known for his work on Black and LGBTQ+ histories; and WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this outstanding community event be appropriately recognized. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize the Rustin/Lorde Community Breakfast and The Southern Unity Movement Inc. for their innumerable contributions to inclusion, justice, and activism in the State of Georgia. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to The Southern Unity Movement Inc., the public, and the press.
