House Resolution 1040 By: Representatives Flournoy of the 74th, Holly of the 116th, Douglas of the 78th, Santos of the 117th, Kahaian of the 81st, and others A RESOLUTION Honoring Echo Park Speedway; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Echo Park Speedway, constructed in 1960, is a 1.54 mile raceway that has hosted a variety of events including NASCAR and IndyCar races; and WHEREAS, located in Henry County, Georgia, the Echo Park Speedway is the county’s top tourism attraction as well as a significant contributor to the community and citizens of the surrounding area; and WHEREAS, active more than 300 days a year, Echo Park Speedway produces an estimated $250 million in economic impact and supports over 2,800 jobs; and WHEREAS, the speedway’s enticing events attract over one million visitors from all 50 states and more than a dozen countries annually; and WHEREAS, consistently serving the community, Speedway Children's Charities Atlanta has given back almost one million dollars to area charities over the past 10 years; and WHEREAS, dedicated to the safety of all Georgians, Echo Park Speedway serves as an evacuation location from hurricanes and other natural disasters; and WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper to recognize the economic and community impact of the Echo Park Speedway. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor the Echo Park Speedway and extend best wishes for continued growth and success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
