A RESOLUTION
Honoring International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, 2026; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, January 27, 2026, marks the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz
Birkenau Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp where over one million people were
murdered, most of them Jewish; and
WHEREAS, by marking this important anniversary and the International Day of
Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, we affirm the continued
relevance to teach and learn about the Holocaust; and
WHEREAS, the Holocaust, in which six million Jewish men, women, and children were
systematically murdered by the Nazi regime, along with millions of others, including people
with disabilities, political dissidents, and countless others, serves as a solemn reminder of
what happens when hate is unchecked; and
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia honors the memory of those who perished, the survivors
who carry the scars of their experiences, and the generations who have inherited the
responsibility to remember and educate future generations; and
WHEREAS, on this anniversary, the state of Georgia recommits itself to combating the
global rise in antisemitism; and
WHEREAS, the people of Georgia recognize the importance of combating hate and bigotry
in all forms, standing in solidarity against antisemitism, racism, and all forms of
discrimination that seek to dehumanize and divide us; and
WHEREAS, the lessons of the Holocaust call upon us to be vigilant, to uphold human
dignity, and to actively promote peace, understanding, and respect for all people, regardless
of their background, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, or religion; and
WHEREAS, this day serves as a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the
enduring importance of remembrance.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body honor January 27, 2026, as International Holocaust Remembrance
Day and avow that we will remember the history and lessons of the Holocaust and honor its
victims, survivors and liberators.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the
public and the press.
