House Resolution 11

By: Representative Davis of the 87th

A RESOLUTION

Urging the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the DeKalb County government to resolve sewage pollution and spills; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, sewage pollution and spills have been a persistent issue in various areas of DeKalb County, disproportionately affecting predominantly Black "nonpriority" areas; and

WHEREAS, the health and well-being of residents in these areas are compromised due to the adverse effects of sewage pollution on the environment and public health; and

WHEREAS, it is essential to address these issues promptly and ensure that all residents of DeKalb County have access to clean and safe environments; and

WHEREAS, there is a disparity between the prioritization of areas in DeKalb County, with North DeKalb receiving preferential treatment over South DeKalb.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body urge the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the DeKalb County government to take immediate and comprehensive actions to fix and eliminate sewage pollution and spills in predominantly Black "nonpriority" areas of DeKalb County.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body urge the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the DeKalb County government to establish a date certain within a consent decree for the resolution of sewage pollution and spills in these areas, prioritizing the protection of the environment and the health of residents.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body encourage the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the DeKalb County government to treat South DeKalb with the same level of priority as North DeKalb in addressing sewage pollution and spills, ensuring that equitable resources and efforts are allocated to both regions.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to officials of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the DeKalb County government.
