WHEREAS, political polarization in the United States has reached historic levels, leading to rising hostility, the erosion of civil discourse, and acts of political violence threatening democratic stability; and WHEREAS, critical media literacy education has been shown to reduce susceptibility to misinformation and increase civil discourse; and WHEREAS, if passed, the Georgia Critical Media Literacy and Polarization Reduction Act of 2026 will establish a nonpartisan, standards based curriculum to equip students with essential civic skills. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body: (1) Encourage bipartisan support for the passage of the Georgia Critical Media Literacy and Polarization Reduction Act of 2026; and (2) Urge local school systems to actively promote, implement, and support the curriculum in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Education for public high schools as a tool to reduce political polarization and strengthen both civic and civil discourse.
