A RESOLUTION
Encouraging bipartisan support for and the promotion of critical media consumption and
literacy education in Georgia's public high schools as a tool to reduce political polarization
and strengthen both civic and civil discourse; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, political polarization in the United States has reached historic levels, leading
to rising hostility, the erosion of civil discourse, and acts of political violence threatening
democratic stability; and
WHEREAS, critical media literacy education has been shown to reduce susceptibility to
misinformation and increase civil discourse; and
WHEREAS, if passed, the Georgia Critical Media Literacy and Polarization Reduction Act
of 2026 will establish a nonpartisan, standards based curriculum to equip students with
essential civic skills.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body:
(1) Encourage bipartisan support for the passage of the Georgia Critical Media Literacy and
Polarization Reduction Act of 2026; and
(2) Urge local school systems to actively promote, implement, and support the curriculum
in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Education for public high schools as a tool
to reduce political polarization and strengthen both civic and civil discourse.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the
Governor, the Georgia Department of Education, and local boards of education.
