## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the resolution. Quote the text, not the summary.

A Georgia House resolution formally commends Darin McCoy, a longtime probate judge, for his decades of public service in the state's probate court system.

### Plain-language summary

This resolution is a ceremonial statement from the Georgia House of Representatives honoring Darin McCoy, who has served in the Georgia Council of Probate Judges and held every office in that organization, including a term as president. It notes his 2016 term as president of the Constitutional Officers of Georgia, a group made up of the state's sheriffs, superior court clerks, tax commissioners, and probate judges, and his work teaching probate court judges and clerks through the University of Georgia's Institute of Continuing Judicial Education.
The resolution does not change any law. It simply expresses the House's recognition and best wishes for McCoy, who will have served 36 years in office upon completing his current term in 2028, and directs the Clerk of the House to provide him a copy of the resolution.

### What it does

- Formally recognizes and commends Darin McCoy for his public service as a Georgia probate judge and officer of statewide judicial organizations.
- States that McCoy has held every office in the Georgia Council of Probate Judges, including a term as president from 2002 to 2003.
- Notes his 2016 presidency of the Constitutional Officers of Georgia and his teaching work for the University of Georgia's Institute of Continuing Judicial Education.
- Directs the Clerk of the House of Representatives to prepare and distribute a copy of the resolution to Darin McCoy.

### Who it affects

It also references the Georgia Council of Probate Judges, the Constitutional Officers of Georgia (sheriffs, superior court clerks, tax commissioners, and probate judges), and the University of Georgia's Institute of Continuing Judicial Education.

### Why it matters

This is a symbolic honor with no legal effect on Georgians generally. It creates an official record of the House's recognition of one public official's decades of service, which McCoy can keep as a personal memento provided by the Clerk of the House.
