House Resolution 1147 By: Representatives Okoye of the 102nd, McClain of the 109th, Beckles of the 96th, Adeyina of the 110th, and Ali of the 106th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Mrs. Lena B. Williams; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Mrs. Lena B. Williams was born on December 3, 1930, in St. Andrew, Jamaica, to William Hoo Fatt, a Chinese immigrant shop owner, and Kathleen Rose Hall, a Jamaican seamstress of exceptional skill; and WHEREAS, as the firstborn of seven children, Mrs. Williams spent her early years in Woodford, St. Andrew, and later graduated from the distinguished Excelsior High School in Kingston; and WHEREAS, she pursued higher education at Mico Teachers College, the oldest teacher training institution in the Western Hemisphere, where she was proudly among the first class of women to matriculate and graduate from the institution in 1956; and WHEREAS, during her studies at Mico, she met Alvin C. “A.C.” Williams of Belize, whom she married on August 3, 1957, and their union of 63 years was blessed with three children: Donald, Allan, and Karlene; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams and her husband dedicated more than 50 years to the noble profession of teaching, shaping and enriching young lives in Jamaica, The Bahamas, and the State of Georgia; and WHEREAS, their partnership in education endured until Mr. Williams' passing in 2020, and Mrs. Williams' legacy as a lifelong educator continues to inspire students, families, colleagues, and communities; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Lena B. Williams is widely admired for her unwavering commitment to excellence, her profound influence on generations of learners, and her enduring example of service, leadership, and grace. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Mrs. Lena B. Williams for her outstanding service and extend best wishes for her continued health and happiness. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Mrs. Lena B. Williams.
