A RESOLUTION
Recognizing February 5, 2026, as Latino Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Georgia is home to more than one million residents of Latin American heritage,
whose families are deeply rooted in the economic, social, and cultural fabric of the state and
whose contributions are essential to Georgia’s prosperity and growth; and
WHEREAS, Latino families in Georgia are predominantly composed of immigrant parents
who contribute their talent, labor, and entrepreneurial spirit at higher workforce participation
rates than any other demographic group, strengthening Georgia’s economy across urban and
rural communities alike; and
WHEREAS, Latino workers are over represented in the agricultural, construction,
manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, and retail sectors, playing an indispensable role in
sustaining a stable and affordable food, supply for all communities, caring for our loved
ones, building and maintaining our homes and supporting food and beverage establishments
among other sectors and driving the state’s competitiveness in an increasingly global
economy; and
WHEREAS, over 90 percent of Latino children in Georgia are US born citizens and are
almost 1 in 5 of every children in Pre-K-12, underscoring Latinos integral role in shaping
Georgia's future and a driver of Georgia’s workforce and long term economic sustainability
with greater concentrations in School Districts in Dalton (72 percent) Gainesville (62
percent), Hall (50 percent), Echols (46 percent), Gwinnett (35 percent), and Dekalb (21
percent); and
WHEREAS, Latino entrepreneurs are community providers and continue to strive for
self-sufficiency across Georgia, generating jobs, revitalizing local economies, and reflecting
sustained investment in the state’s future; and
WHEREAS, the success and well-being of American children are directly tied to Georgia’s
ability to compete in a global economy that depends on education, innovation, multilingual
capacity, and cultural fluency; and
WHEREAS, Georgia’s Latino community is rich, diverse and ready to continue building our
state across all sectors, industries including the state’s creative economy through cultural
leaders, performers, and artists of all kinds; and
WHEREAS, Latino civic participation continues to grow, with Latino voters among the
fastest-growing segments of the electorate in Georgia, reflecting increasing engagement in
the democratic process and commitment to the state’s future; and
WHEREAS, the continued growth of Latino families will shape Georgia’s economic
strength, cultural vitality, and global relevance for generations to come.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize February 5, 2026, as Latino Day at the state capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the
public and the press.
