By: Representatives Kendrick of the 95th, Hugley of the 141st, Jones of the 143rd, and Willis
of the 55th
A RESOLUTION
Recognizing March 2, 2026, as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Day at the State
Capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, was founded at Howard University
in Washington, D.C., on January 15, 1908, and has the distinction of being the first sorority
established by African American college women for African American college women; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. has expanded to more than 1,115 chapters
world-wide, with Georgia serving as host to approximately 70 of those chapters on college
and university campuses as well as numerous active alumnae communities around the state
with over 10,672 active Georgia Members; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. is committed to community service and
actively contributes to the educational, civic, health, and socioeconomic life of Georgia's
citizens; and
WHEREAS, all chapters are encouraging their members to become involved community
volunteers and community advocates, and their primary service components include
Empower our Families, Build Our Economic Wealth, Enhance Our Environment, Advocate
for Social Justice, and Uplift our Local Community; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Day at the State Capitol is an international
program developed for members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. to meet with their
legislators and to discuss issues that are pertinent to strengthening families and communities;
and
WHEREAS, at the direction of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.'s International President
Mrs. Danette Reed; South Atlantic Region Director the Honorable Tiffany Moore Russell
Esq.; South Atlantic Region Representative of the International Connection and Social
Action Committee Ms.Cassandra K. Ward, Esq.; the Georgia Connection and Social Action
Coordinator Mrs. Myesha Good; Alpha Kappa Alpha Day at the capitol Chairmen Sydney
Jakes and Akear Mewborn; and Georgia Connection and Social Action liaisons the
Honorable House Minority Leader Carolyn Hugley, the Honorable Dar'shun Kendrick, the
Honorable Inga Willis and the Honorable Anissa Jones have convened this delegation for the
purpose of civic engagement and community involvement, exemplifying the theme
"SOARing to the Midterms: Voting for Change!"
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize March 2, 2026, as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Incorporated Day at the State Capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the
Honorable House Minority Leader Carolyn Hugley, the Honorable Dar'shun Kendrick, the
Honorable Inga Willis, the Honorable Anissa Jones, the Honorable Tonya Anderson, the
Honorable Tiffany Moore Russell Esq., and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
