House Resolution 1172
By: Representatives Reeves of the 99th, Hong of the 103rd, Efstration of the 104th, Clark of
the 108th, Donatucci of the 105th, and others
A RESOLUTION
Recognizing February 10, 2026, as Dr. Indran B. Indrakrishnan Day at the state capitol; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Dr. Indran B. Indrakrishnan is a respected gastroenterologist, physician leader,
and long-standing advocate for public health whose work has positively impacted
communities across the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, beyond clinical medicine, Dr. Indrakrishnan has demonstrated sustained
commitment to public service by engaging constructively with policymakers, community
organizations, and healthcare leaders to advance preventive care, early detection, and health
education for Georgians; and
WHEREAS, at the initiative of Dr. Indrakrishnan, the Governor of Georgia issued a historic
proclamation designating February 4 as Georgia Cancer Day, marking the first time in the
state's history that a unified, general cancer awareness day-rather than one limited to a single
cancer type-has been formally recognized; and
WHEREAS, this landmark proclamation reflects a broader public health vision that promotes
collaboration across cancer types, medical specialties, and community partners, strengthening
statewide awareness and prevention efforts; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Indrakrishnan has continued to serve as a trusted, nonpartisan physician
voice at the intersection of medicine and public policy, offering practical clinical insight in
support of informed decision-making for the benefit of the people of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, over multiple years, Dr. Indrakrishnan's enduring service has demonstrated
leadership defined not by position or title, but by consistency, collaboration, and a steadfast
commitment to improving health outcomes statewide; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the continued public service and
leadership of this distinguished Georgian be once again recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize February 10, 2026, as Dr. Indran B. Indrakrishnan Day
at the State Capitol in honor of his sustained and deeply valuable contributions to public
health and service in the State of Georgia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr.
Indran B. Indrakrishnan.

## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the resolution. Quote the text, not the summary.

A Georgia House resolution designates February 10, 2026 as Dr. Indran B. Indrakrishnan Day at the state capitol, honoring the gastroenterologist's public health advocacy work.

### Plain-language summary

This is a ceremonial resolution from the Georgia House of Representatives, not a change to any law. It recognizes February 10, 2026 as Dr. Indran B. Indrakrishnan Day at the State Capitol.
The resolution describes Dr. Indrakrishnan as a gastroenterologist and physician leader who has worked with policymakers, community groups, and healthcare organizations on preventive care and health education in Georgia. It notes that at his initiative, the Governor previously proclaimed February 4 as Georgia Cancer Day, described as the state's first general cancer awareness day covering all cancer types rather than one specific type. The resolution directs the Clerk of the House to prepare a copy of the resolution for distribution to Dr. Indrakrishnan as a keepsake honoring his service.

### What it does

- Formally designates February 10, 2026 as Dr. Indran B. Indrakrishnan Day at the Georgia State Capitol.
- Directs the Clerk of the House of Representatives to prepare and distribute a copy of the resolution to Dr. Indrakrishnan.
- Creates no new law, funding, or regulatory requirement; it is a symbolic honor only.

### Who it affects

The resolution directly names and honors Dr. Indran B. Indrakrishnan, a gastroenterologist and physician leader. It also involves the Clerk of the House of Representatives, who must prepare the commemorative copy.

### Why it matters

This resolution has no legal or regulatory effect on Georgians; it is a symbolic gesture. Its practical impact is limited to a ceremonial designation and ecognition at the State Capitol honoring one individual's public health work.

### Key provisions

- The resolving clause recognizes February 10, 2026 as Dr. Indran B. Indrakrishnan Day at the State Capitol.
- The further resolved clause directs the Clerk of the House to make a copy of the resolution available for distribution to Dr. Indrakrishnan.
- The whereas clauses describe his role in the Governor's proclamation of February 4 as Georgia Cancer Day, but that proclamation itself is not enacted by this resolution.
