Westbrook of the 163rd, and Hitchens of the 161st
A RESOLUTION
Commending Otis J. Brock, Jr., for a life of love, service, and extraordinary
accomplishments; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Otis J. Brock, Jr., was born October 17, 1933, in Montezuma, Macon County,
Georgia, to Otis J. Brock, Sr., and Ruby Brock; and
WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to Annette Kennedy Brock and was the
devoted father to Donna and Otis as well as the loving grandfather to Zuri, Zoe, and Elijah;
and
WHEREAS, Otis J. Brock, Jr., served honorably in the United States Army during the
Korean War Era; and
WHEREAS, he matriculated at Savannah State College where he was a proud member of
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, he was a star basketball player at Savannah State College, coached by the
legendary Theodore "Ted" Wright; and
WHEREAS, showcasing his extraordinary athletic ability, Otis J. Brock, Jr., was named
All-SEAC from 1953-1956 and was the SEAC's most valuable player in 1955; and
WHEREAS, for 30 years he was a pivotal educator and administrator in Savannah-Chatham
County Public School System; and
WHEREAS, he was a teacher and coach at Sol C. Johnson High School in Savannah,
Georgia; served as principal of Alfred Ely Beach High School for six years from 1971- 1976;
and retired in 1986 as director of secondary education for Savannah-Chatham County Public
School System; and
WHEREAS, after retirement, he returned to Savannah State College, his beloved alma mater,
to serve as the college's second women's volleyball coach, women's cross country coach, and
as women's basketball coach; and
WHEREAS, his dedication aided the college, now Savannah State University, to make the
transition from NCAA Division III athletics to NCAA Division II; and
WHEREAS, Otis J. Brock, Jr., was a life-long, devoted member of Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity, Inc.; National Association of Guardsmen; and Wolves Club; and
WHEREAS, Otis J. Brock, Jr. departed this life January 28, 2026, after a life of exemplary
service to mankind and Savannah, Georgia.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body commend Otis J. Brock, Jr., for his many accomplishments,
especially his service to education and young people in Savannah, Georgia, and express their
deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the
family of Otis J. Brock, Jr.
