A RESOLUTION
Recognizing of February as National Canned Food Month in the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, February is nationally recognized as National Canned Food Month, an observance established in 1987 to highlight the nutritional value, affordability, convenience, and extended shelf life of canned foods; and
WHEREAS, canned foods serve as an important, accessible, and shelf-stable source of nutrition for many individuals and families, including those experiencing food insecurity; and
WHEREAS, the extended shelf life of canned foods makes them particularly well suited for donation to food banks and food pantries, especially during winter months when charitable food donations often decline; and
WHEREAS, food banks, schools, faith-based organizations, local businesses, and community groups frequently organize voluntary canned food drives during this period to support community members in need.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize February as National Canned Food Month and encourage voluntary community participation in canned food drives and other charitable hunger-relief efforts.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
