A RESOLUTION
Congratulating Chief Stone Mathis and Columbus Police Department for being named the
Georgia Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates' Phyllis Goodwin Agency of the
Year; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the Columbus Police Department (CPD) has been named the recipient of the
Georgia Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates' Phyllis Goodwin Agency of the
Year Award; and
WHEREAS, this prestigious award recognizes a law enforcement agency that demonstrates
strong leadership, progress, and commitment to professional excellence; and
WHEREAS, CPD was selected for its recent work in reducing crime, increasing staffing,
leadership development, and modernization; and
WHEREAS, CPD has addressed challenges over the years through deliberate and strategic
resets that focus on accountability, community policing, and taking care of the men and
women who risk their lives on behalf of the safety of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, in less than two years, CPD has reached full staffing, improved officer pay,
boosted morale, and made major investments in technology including implementation of
Columbus' Real Time Crime Center, expanded camera and license plate reader programs,
upgraded body-worn and in-car cameras, drone capabilities, and modernized records and
dispatch systems; and
WHEREAS, measurable results including a more than 30 percent drop in Part I crimes, a 29
percent drop in violent crimes, and a case clearence rate that exceeds national average
reflects CPD's commitment to excellence and progression; and
WHEREAS, CPD brings pride to its officers, leadership, and the citizens of Columbus,
Georgia, with the honor of being named the Georgia Chapter of the FBI National Academy
Associates' Phyllis Goodwin Agency of the Year Award.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body congratulate Chief Stone Mathis and Columbus Police Department
for being named the Georgia Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates' Phyllis
Goodwin Agency of the Year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the
Columbus Police Department.
