House Resolution 1252

A RESOLUTION
Recognizing February 5, 2026, as Cancer Prevention Day at the capitol and commending the
collaborative efforts of Georgia's cancer prevention, screening, and advocacy partners; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS, cancer remains one of the leading causes of death in Georgia and continues to
place a significant health and economic burden on the state, impacting individuals, families,
and communities in every region of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, many cancers can be prevented or detected early through evidence-based
strategies including tobacco cessation, HPV vaccination, healthy nutrition and physical
activity, sun safety, and timely cancer screening; and
WHEREAS, Cancer Prevention Day at the capitol provides an opportunity for policymakers
to engage directly with community leaders, survivors, and experts working to reduce cancer
risk and improve outcomes across Georgia; and
WHEREAS, the Georgia House of Representatives has established the Cancer Care Access
Study Committee to examine barriers to cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment,
workforce capacity, and survivorship support across Georgia, particularly in rural and
underserved communities; and
WHEREAS, Cancer Prevention Day at the capitol is convened through the collaborative
leadership of the Georgia Cancer Control Consortium, in partnership with the Georgia
Department of Public Health, Georgia CORE, the Regional Cancer Coalitions of Georgia,
and numerous health systems, advocacy organizations, and community partners across the
state; and
WHEREAS, these partners work year-round to advance cancer prevention, promote
screening and early detection, address disparities affecting rural and underserved
communities, and support individuals across the cancer continuum from prevention through
survivorship.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize February 5, 2026, as Cancer Prevention Day at the
capitol and commend the organizations, advocates, and individuals working to prevent
cancer and save lives in Georgia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body encourage all Georgians to
learn about the work of the Georgia Cancer Control Consortium, engage in evidence-based
preventive health practices that reduce cancer risk, and keep up to date with recommended
cancer screening.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the
public and the press.
