## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the resolution. Quote the text, not the summary.

A Georgia House resolution formally commends Dr. Latoya Thomas, an Information Technology teacher at Manchester High School, for being named the Douglas County School System's 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year.

### Plain-language summary

This is a ceremonial resolution from the Georgia House of Representatives, not a change to any law. It recognizes Dr. Latoya Thomas, an Information Technology teacher at Manchester High School in the Douglas County School System, for being named the district's 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year. The resolution also notes her earlier honors, including the 2024 Georgia Business Education Association Teacher of the Year and the 2021 FBLA New Teacher of the Year.
The resolution states the House's intent to commend her achievements and wish her continued success. It directs the Clerk of the House of Representatives to prepare a copy of the resolution for distribution to Dr. Thomas as a keepsake of the honor.

### What it does

- Formally commends Dr. Latoya Thomas on behalf of the Georgia House of Representatives for being named Douglas County's 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year.
- Recites her prior awards, including the 2024 Georgia Business Education Association Teacher of the Year and 2021 FBLA New Teacher of the Year honors.
- Directs the Clerk of the House of Representatives to prepare and distribute a copy of the resolution to Dr. Thomas.
- Creates no new law, funding, or requirement; it is a symbolic honor rather than a policy change.

### Who it affects

The resolution directly names Dr. Latoya Thomas, a teacher at Manchester High School in the Douglas County School System. It has no legal effect on other teachers, schools, or the public since it is a commendation rather than binding legislation.

### Why it matters

The resolution has no practical effect on Georgia law, schools, or funding. Its significance is symbolic: it gives official state recognition to an individual teacher's achievements and provides her with a formal keepsake document from the legislature.

### Key provisions

- The resolution recites Dr. Thomas's professional background and awards as findings in a series of 'whereas' clauses.
- The operative resolving clause commends Dr. Thomas and expresses the House's best wishes for her continued success.
- A further resolving clause directs the Clerk of the House to make a copy available for distribution to Dr. Thomas.
