A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life and memory of Sam R. Mayhan; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Sam R. Mayhan on January 30, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Sam R. Mayhan was born on December 26, 1932, and lived a life marked by courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment to those he loved; and

WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Army and Navy, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans; and

WHEREAS, from June 13, 1950, through December 4, 1957, Sam served in the United States Army, where he served as an Infantryman and achieved the rank of Corporal; and

WHEREAS, following his Army service, he continued his dedication to the nation by joining the United States Navy from September 19, 1958, to July 1, 1971, ultimately earning the rank of Radioman First Class (RM1); and

WHEREAS, Sam was a veteran of the Korean Conflict Era, Peacetime, and the Vietnam Era; and

WHEREAS, his distinguished career took him across the globe, including assignments in Korea, Germany, the Philippines, Cuba, Japan, and Vietnam; and

WHEREAS, a man of abiding faith, Sam was an active member of his church and was deeply committed to his family; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Sam R. Mayhan will long be remembered for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Sam R. Mayhan and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of Sam R. Mayhan.
