A RESOLUTION

Recognizing Severe Weather Preparedness Week and commending the Meteorologists in the public and private sectors alike for their exceptional service to the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Severe Weather Preparedness Week is observed annually in Georgia to promote awareness, readiness, and public safety in advance of severe weather events that impact communities across the state; and

WHEREAS, the National Weather Service - Atlanta, Georgia, headquartered in Peachtree City, serves as the primary source of life-saving weather forecasts, watches, warnings, and decision-support services for a significant portion of the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the National Weather Service - Atlanta collaborates closely with state and local emergency management officials, public safety agencies, broadcasters, utilities, educators, and community partners to ensure Georgians receive clear, consistent, and actionable weather information; and

WHEREAS, the dedicated meteorologists, hydrologists, technicians, and support staff of the National Weather Service - Atlanta, Broadcast Television, and state and other private/public sector Meteorologists work tirelessly, often under extreme and rapidly evolving conditions, to monitor, forecast, and communicate severe weather, including tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, winter storms, and extreme heat; and

WHEREAS, accurate and timely information issued by the National Weather Service - Atlanta, Broadcast Television, as well as state and other private/public sector Meteorologists are essential to the success of Severe Weather Preparedness Week, empowering individuals, families, businesses, schools, and emergency management agencies to take proactive steps to protect life and property; and

WHEREAS, during periods of severe weather, the professionals of the Meteorological Community work together to demonstrate exceptional professionalism, scientific excellence, and public service, often working extended hours to provide continuous monitoring and communication; and

WHEREAS, the work of the National Weather Service - Atlanta, Broadcast meteorologists, State of Georgia meteorologists and other private sector meteorologists strengthens Georgia's resilience, preparedness, and public safety efforts and reflects a steadfast commitment to serving the people of this state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend and honor the National Weather Service - Atlanta, Georgia, Broadcast Television, as well as state and other private/public sector Meteorologists in Georgia during Severe Weather Preparedness Week for their outstanding service, dedication, and commitment to protecting the lives and well-being of Georgians. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to representatives of the National Weather Service - Atlanta, Georgia, Broadcast Television, as well as state and other private/public sector Meteorologists.
