A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending the Consulate General of India in Atlanta for their recognition
and celebration of Black History Month; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the Consulate General of India in Atlanta serves as a vital diplomatic mission
fostering strong bilateral relations between the Republic of India and the United States of
America, particularly within the Southeastern United States; and
WHEREAS, Black History Month is observed annually in February to honor the
achievements, contributions, and sacrifices of African Americans throughout United States
history and to recognize the central role of Black Americans in shaping our nation; and
WHEREAS, the Consulate General of India in Atlanta has demonstrated exemplary cultural
diplomacy and solidarity by formally recognizing and celebrating Black History Month,
thereby honoring the shared values of diversity, equality, and justice that unite the people of
India and the United States; and
WHEREAS, this recognition reflects the deep historical connections between the Civil
Rights Movement in the United States and India's own struggle for independence and social
justice, including the profound influence of Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of nonviolent
resistance on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and other civil rights leaders; and
WHEREAS, the Consulate General's commitment to acknowledging Black History Month
strengthens the cultural bonds between the Indian American community and African
American communities throughout Georgia and reinforces our shared commitment to
celebrating diversity and promoting mutual understanding; and
WHEREAS, such gestures of recognition and respect serve to build bridges between
communities, foster intercultural dialogue, and demonstrate that the pursuit of equality and
justice transcends national boundaries; and
WHEREAS, the people of Georgia benefit greatly from the presence of the Consulate
General of India in Atlanta and the vibrant Indian American community that contributes
significantly to the economic, cultural, and social fabric of our state.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize and commend the Consulate General of India in Atlanta
for their recognition and celebration of Black History Month and extend sincere appreciation
for their commitment to promoting cultural understanding, diversity, and unity.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the
Consulate General of India in Atlanta.
