A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Georgia Advancing Communities Together, Inc., and designating February 25, 2026, as Georgia ACT Housing Day at the capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Georgia Advancing Communities Together, Inc., (Georgia ACT) is a statewide member organization for nonprofit affordable housing and community development organizations engaged in housing development, housing counseling, and community development; and

WHEREAS, Georgia is experiencing a significant affordable housing shortage, with an estimated 201,000 extremely low-income renter households lacking access to affordable and available homes; and the construction market has not seen a complete rebound in new construction that reaches the peak of building while experiencing record population growth and

WHEREAS, rising rental costs in Georgia have outpaced wage growth, with the average fair market rent for a two-bedroom apartment reaching $1,196 per month, requiring a full-time worker to earn at least $22.99 per hour to afford it without being cost-burdened; and

WHEREAS, stable and affordable housing is a proven foundation for improved health, educational outcomes, and economic mobility, and reducing homelessness benefits communities socially and economically; and

WHEREAS, Georgia ACT focuses on advancing equitable housing and community development by connecting and convening Community Development Corporations and nonprofits to address needs and build organizational capacity to improve life outcomes for residents in communities across Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Georgia ACT strengthens the affordable housing and community development industry through training, leadership and professional development opportunities, technical assistance, and civic engagement; and

WHEREAS, Georgia ACT continues to advocate for the development of safe, decent, and affordable housing in Georgia while ensuring neighborhoods remain a catalyst for revitalization in historically disinvested communities; and

WHEREAS, Georgia ACT will host its 2026 Housing Day at the capitol on February 25, 2026, bringing together nonprofit leaders, residents, advocates, and policymakers to elevate housing as a cornerstone of economic stability, community health, and opportunity for all Georgians; and

WHEREAS, this event provides an opportunity for members of the General Assembly to hear directly from constituents and housing practitioners about the importance of strengthening tenant protections, expanding affordable housing supply, preventing homelessness, and supporting community development.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Georgia Advancing Communities Together, Inc., for its leadership in advancing equitable housing and community development across the State of Georgia and hereby designate February 25, 2026, as Georgia ACT Housing Day at the capitol.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Georgia Advancing Communities Together, Inc.
