By: Representatives Beckles of the 96th, Adeyina of the 110th, Clark of the 108th, McClain
of the 109th, Ali of the 106th, and others
A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending the Juniors Running Club of Norcross; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the Juniors Running Club was founded in the fall of 2013 at Norcross
Elementary School in Norcross, Georgia, with just 40 runners in grades 3-5, and by spring
2014 had grown to over 100 active members; and
WHEREAS, today the program operates out of Baldwin Elementary School in Norcross and
includes more than 100 elementary school runners, 30 middle school runners, and 15 adult
runners; and
WHEREAS, the Juniors Running Club strives to promote movement and fitness through the
sport of running; to prepare runners for high school cross country and track; to serve as
ambassadors for running and for Baldwin Elementary, Summerour Middle, and Norcross
High in the Norcross community, Gwinnett County, Georgia, and beyond; and to inspire
teachers and parents to live active, healthy lifestyles; and
WHEREAS, during the 2025-2026 season, the Baldwin, Summerour, and adult teams
collectively known as Norcross Running participated in Global Running Day 2025, and
Baldwin Elementary hosted a highly successful fall program, averaging 80-90 runners each
Friday morning at 7:00 a.m.; and
WHEREAS, the Baldwin Juniors compiled an impressive total of 1,601 miles as a group,
with 65 runners reaching the half marathon distance of 13.1 miles and 8 runners achieving
the full marathon distance of 26.2 miles; and
WHEREAS, the Baldwin Juniors earned 1st place in the Girls Division and 2nd place in the
Boys Division in the Cluster Race among seven local schools; and
WHEREAS, the Summerour Juniors achieved several podium finishes, including three
1st-place wins and a 3rd place finish at the Gwinnett County Championship out of 21 middle
schools, a 2nd place team finish in a USATF Cross Country meet alongside Baldwin Juniors,
and a historic first podium finish for the boys in the North Georgia Meet in Athens, Georgia;
and
WHEREAS, both Baldwin and Summerour Juniors capped off the season with an
out-of-state trip to Louisville, Kentucky, to compete in the Middle School Nationals 2025;
and
WHEREAS, training resumes in March as the runners prepare for the Spring Track Season,
the Baldwin Schoolwide Fun Run, and the Norcross Cluster Distance and Track Meet; and
WHEREAS, the Juniors Running Club exemplifies excellence in youth athletics and
community engagement, fostering dedication, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles among the
young people of Norcross and Gwinnett County; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
exceptional program be appropriately recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize and commend the Juniors Running Club of Norcross for
their remarkable achievements during the 2025-2026 season and extend best wishes for
continued success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the
Juniors Running Club.
