House Resolution 1401

A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Reverend Dr. Jamal-Harrison Bryant; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Jamal-Harrison Bryant has long been recognized by the citizens
of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal
commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Bryant is one of the nation’s most dynamic and justice-driven faith
leaders, shaped by the frontlines of civil rights organizing, grassroots mobilization, and
unwavering advocacy for marginalized communities; and
WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Bryant's ministry reflects a core belief the faith must be an instrument
of liberation and systemic change; and
WHEREAS, a visionary, civil rights activist, Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award
recipient, and contributor to two Grammy Awards for his spoken-word performance on The
Urban Hymnal, Rev. Dr. Bryant Bryant has served as Senior Pastor of New Birth Missionary
Baptist Church in Stonecrest, Georgia, since 2018; and
WHEREAS, most recently, Dr. Bryant has emerged as a leading voice in economic justice
through his leadership of the TargetFAST movement and Target Boycott, one of the most
significant Black-led consumer justice campaigns in decades; and
WHEREAS, his strategy calls for equitable corporate practices, accountability, and respect
for Black buying power, continuing the legacy of economic nonviolence championed by Dr.
King and other civil rights architects; and
WHEREAS, he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize and commend Reverend Dr. Jamal-Harrison Bryant for
his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated service to the State of Georgia and extend
the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to
Reverend Dr. Jamal-Harrison Bryant.
