A RESOLUTION
Recognizing Canada Day; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, in 2024, bilateral trade between the State of Georgia and Canada was $13.9
billion, making Georgia the number one state in the Southeast for trade with Canada; and
WHEREAS, Georgia exported $7.4 billion in goods to Canada, with plastic or plastic articles
being the number one export; and
WHEREAS, Georgia imported $6.5 billion in goods from Canada, with the number one
import being engines and turbines; and
WHEREAS, Canada is Georgia's number one export market, and has been for over 20 years;
and
WHEREAS, there are over 300 Canadian-owned business in Georgia, employing over
33,000 Georgians; and
WHEREAS, notable Canadian companies in Georgia include: CAE, an aerospace training
and simulation company with a training facility on Gulfstream's campus in Savannah,
Georgia; Magna International, the number three largest auto parts manufacturer in the world
and owner of Decostar, located in Carrollton, Georgia; Irving Tissue, a paper products
company with its first facility located near Macon, Georgia; Titanium Transportation, an
Ontario-based logistics company with United States assets in crane transport; West Fraser,
a British Columbia-based lumber producer with two mills in Georgia; Canfor, a lumber
producer with three facilities in Georgia, including its southern headquarters in Moultrie,
Georgia; and Interfor, a lumber producer with three facilities in Georgia.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize Canada Day in the State of Georgia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the
public and the press.
